One Small Step At A Time...

When you’re standing where you are, longing to get back to where you were, the distance between the two places can seem too great. When I’m supporting a child to return to previous thoughts, feelings or actions, they are often swamped with feelings of hopelessness. “I don’t know how to go back to where I was. I don’t even remember getting to where I am. I just know I hate it here.”

This illustration helps a child to notice the small steps they took from where they were to where they are now. Even if they don’t remember taking the steps it helps to remind them the return journey will be navigated in exactly the same way, one small step at a time.
