Maslow’s ‘Hierarchy of Needs’ teaches us that if we want our children to feel love and belonging, or if we aspire for them to go further and build their esteem, they must first feel safe. Whilst Maslow stressed that each level in his pyramid does not have to be fulfilled to 100% before a person can climb higher, it does illuminate how critical safety is.
