Your Love Is Not the Problem | Parent Advocacy for Children

If you have found yourself advocating for your child, asking for accommodations, understanding or space, you may already be familiar with the quieter side of parent advocacy for children.

You might notice yourself shrinking.

You might start wondering if you are too much, too loud, or too demanding.

This conversation is for the parents and caregivers who advocate from a place of determined love. People who continue to ask for what their child needs even when it feels hard, uncomfortable, or lonely.

The responses can be vastly different.

Sometimes you are listened to and offered space to explore what might help. Other times you are met with resistance. Sometimes the message is subtle. Sometimes it is not. You are difficult. You are demanding. You should help your child fit in better instead of asking the environment to adapt.

Over time, those messages can turn inward.

Should I be less.

Should I advocate less.

Should I help my child blend in more.

Am I making things worse by pushing for what they need.

If this resonates, you are not alone.

And you are not wrong for advocating for your child.

Your love is not the problem.
